Accommodations steeped in history and style—the GLS Campus is home to two hotels: the GLS Campus Hotel, featuring modern studio apartments, and the historic Boutiquehotel Oderberger, a 19th-century public bathhouse that is a listed historic building and has been spectacularly restored. Starting in 2029, the “Club” will join the lineup, offering 90 brand-new rooms and focusing on coworking and community living.
The GLS Language School is one of the most renowned private language schools in Germany and attracts thousands of language students from all over the world every year. Whether it’s German as a foreign language or language courses abroad—at GLS, you learn languages where they’re spoken and make friends for life.

History
City Planning Commissioner Ludwig Hoffmann built the municipal school and the magnificent public bathhouse on Oderberger Straße in the Neo-Renaissance style as a public bathing facility for the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood in Berlin.
A new school building in the typical GDR style is being constructed on Kastanienallee; today, it houses seminar rooms for the GLS Language School.
Entrepreneur Barbara Jaeschke first founded the GLS Language Center in West Germany and moved it to Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Due to serious cracks in the pool and construction defects, the municipal swimming pool had to close. This was followed by decades of vacancy, during which the pool was used as a party venue by Berlin’s bohemian crowd.
GLS purchases the vacant school grounds on Kastanienallee. After extensive renovation, the GLS Campus Berlin—featuring a language school, hotel, and restaurant—opens in 2006.
GLS acquires the directly adjacent, dilapidated Oderberger municipal bathhouse and is launching a five-year, large-scale renovation project in accordance with historic preservation guidelines.
The historic swimming pool is making a spectacular comeback as the Hotel Oderberger Berlin. The indoor pool is once again open to swimmers and, thanks to its retractable floor, transforms into a spectacular event space.
The 16,000-square-meter campus blends history with modernity and is run as a successful, women-led family business by Barbara Jaeschke and her daughters representing the second generation of the family.
